A New Wellness Approach for Employers
There is a reason why Cleveland Clinic, one of America's Top 4 Hospitals according to U.S. News & World Report 2012-2013 "Best Hospitals" rankings, is now highly recognized and publicized for its wellness efforts. Not only do we develop wellness programs that work for other employers, but we also use them with our own 42,000 employees. We live what we teach.
Research has shown that 40 percent of all healthcare expenses in the United States stem from preventable chronic illnesses, which are most often caused by three lifestyle choices: physical inactivity, unhealthy eating habits and tobacco use. Our solution is to reverse this through employee wellness programs.
We know that if individuals improve their health habits in the “Big 4” areas -- tobacco use, food, exercise and stress management -- we will positively impact population health in this country. We work from the fact that wellness is not complicated, and is best achieved by making changes in how we live. The key is to motivate employees to take action to improve their health.
